EM-406a Default configuration

Hello,

If I don't wish to change the default configuration of the EM-406a, do I need to hook up the RX line?

I have two serial devices, one that only receives, and one that only transmits, EM-406a.  Can I hook the MCU RX to one device and the TX line to the other? 

The alternative is adding a MUX, but I would like to avoid this.

Baud rates will be the same.

Goal is to build a GPS eval board before I start playing with anything major.

There is a wealth of information on this site, if anyone has any specific suggestions concerning the EM-406a, please let me know.

    You'e got it right. You can dedicate the Rx line to the GPS and use the Tx line for something else. That's what we do with the original ArduPilot: Rx is GPS and Tx is telemetry to Xbee.
