The following info is in the wiki for Failsafe:
It is likely you may accidentally trigger failsafe by turning off the radio accidentally. This may cause the AC to lift off and hover 10m above its current location.
Does this mean if your hexcopter is on the ground and you shut off your radio (yes, I know you shouldn't do this), a failsafe would be activate? If so, this is really dangerous. There should be some programming in place to NOT activate failsafe if your copter is not flying. Am I missing something here? --- this seems really crazy to me.
The wiki also says:
...the copter will rise 10m above it's current altitude...
I would like to humbly request that this be configurable. I fly at a cliffside in the mountains with lots of trees and am often flying with my copter below me. Only going up 10m could cause my copter to crash into the mountain or a tree.
Thank you -- great job on the code everyone!

Yes, there are some checks. You need to be armed, and you need to have taken off. If you don't take off it won't engage.
The quad will auto-disarm after 20seconds if the throttle is low.
There is a moment of twenty seconds where there is some danger, but that's the tradeoff of failsafe.
We've looked at other options but there are always tradeoffs. Almost every situation can end in accidental triggering. There is an RTL altitude you can set as well.
