Failsafe with throttle on channel 8

How do you guys recommend setting up the radio failsafe?  If Channel 8 goes low won't the motor shut down?  The pixhawk won't be able to control altitude with "throttle"/collective with no power.  Do you recommend setting the receiver to maintain channel 8, center the other channels and set channel 5 to something like RTL.  I read that is not recommended but seems like the only option for helis.  Thoughts?

  • Patrick,  Test it with the blades off.  If channel 3 goes low and all others hold their last known position I think you will be ok.  Remember the Pixhawk is looking at channel 3 input to determine if a failsafe should be invoked.  Honestly though I don't remember if I preset all my channels or if just 3 goes low and all others use last known.  It works though.

    • I currently use the "PWM Output Off" setting in my Rx to trigger failsafe, as it's actually the simplest and usually the best choice for Arducopter.  But honestly, I haven't tested this functionality in a long time and I really should.  I expect it will be fine, as the motor will only shut off if the Rx sends a Ch8 Low signal, which it shouldn't do.  It should just shut off the PWM, so the logic won't shut off the motor.
