Firmware: Traditional Heli: "Please Update" ???

New user, just assembled my board, and I think it's up and running fine.  But I'm a little confused about what is going on with APM and the firmware.

Originally I found APM Planner 1.0.77 somewhere on one of the links in a wiki, downloaded that, and was running it.  I think it was uploading a very old version of the Trad. Heli firmware, forget what it was, 1.0.37 or something.  Anyway, I saw a post finally saying I need to download APM Planner 1.0.82, because of the change to Git, which I have done.

OK, so first thing's first, I uploaded the firmware, and then when I go to CLI, the prompt says "Arducopter 1.0.42 Beta".  I thought that's a little old.  When I go to the firmware screen, where the traditional heli is, it shows "Please Update".

What's that all about?

Now fumbling around some more (since I can't find any guide to APM Planner?) I go to Help tab, and I see the button for "Check for Updates".  I click that, it does some stuff, but then fails out on "Update Failed Access to the path 'C:\Users...\Mission Planner 1.0.82\.gitignore.etag is denied."

What's going on?

I have seemingly the same situation both on my Netbook running Win 7, and my desktop running WinXP.

    Robert,

Thanks for catching this.  This was a symptom of the heli firmware being too out of date.

I've updated the version in the planner so it's the latest build.  I didn't put it through a very exhaustive set of tests but stabilise is fine and I expect most other features are fine too.

there was an important loiter bug fixed in the past couple of days that's included now.

  • I missed another detail.  If I go under Firmware, click on the heli, it asks me if I want to upload Arducopter 2.0.43 Beta Heli, I click yes, it goes through the process, all seems good.  But then if I go back to CLI, the prompt still says 2.0.42???
