Flight Paths in Google Earth Raised Above Ground Level

When I view log files in Google Earth, sometimes the start and stop points are on, or very close to, the ground.  Other times those points are raised well above ground level as seen in the screen shot below.  I can't figure out why this is happening and why it isn't consistently right or wrong.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul
