I often fly in an area with some very large bluffs, canyons and such. I generally fly standing on a lip of the canyon wall as I'm less likely to inadvertently fly outside LOS, and it's frankly very difficdult to travel down into the canyons themselves.
There's a number of shallower draws and the like but the main canyons have walls about 300 feet high. I'd like to try longer flights that follow the canyon and descend well below its' walls but I don't know how without risking my UAV.
I'm currently flying with 2.4 RC and 5.8 video but I'm wanting to put together a long range RC control and FPV system which would be significantly more resilient in this type of terrain - something that would allow me to occasionally fly behind a bluff without losing control.
Any suggestions? I have the basic 900 telemetry link and could try to fly autonomously using mission planner but I worry about GPS in such terrain.
Any suggestions?
