Been flying RC for several years and Multirotors for 3. I have read a lot of post where when people say flight performance change when they fly over water. I have thought about this and I remember one thing my flight instructor taught me about landing when there was a lake at the end of the runway. I had to go back and look it up to make sure I had it right because it's been a few years but sure enough it's all there. Now I'm not saying this has a major affect on Multirotors more so on planes but it can come into play on air density which is a whole other subject. Just food for thought.
Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical knowledge Chapter 11 Pg 11-8 [Figure 11-14]
Convective currents close to the ground can affect a pilot’s ability to control the aircraft. For example, on final approach, the rising air from terrain devoid of vegetation sometimes produces a ballooning effect that can cause a pilot to overshoot the intended landing spot. On the other hand, an approach over a large body of water or an area of thick vegetation tends to create a sinking effect that can cause an unwary pilot to land short of the intended landing spot.
