foam vs composite

Hello,

I've never build a plane and to push myself a bit, so i want to equip it with solar panels. i'm studying airplane design and solarpanels for a quite a while, but i'm not sure what is best, foam or composite? and is there a significant difference? because i think building a foamy is easier, but composite is better. or maybe the fuselage out of composite and the wings out of foam, or other way around?

Who can help my out here?

  • composite will 99 times out of 100 out perform a foam model, however yes manufacturing and/or building does require more work, and expense.

  • its ideal to do mix use composite for spars, joints, mounts and other critical high loading components then the foam use them as filler like wing ribs/core  ans fuselage section. all composite is just too expensive so this is the only logical way to build it.
