Follow the Google Terrain Topology?

HI,

Is there a way that we can configure the ardupilot to follow the terrain topology, example:

I am at 0 altitude, and I have created a waypoint 1 at 30 meters and a second waypoint 2 at 30 meters also, but between them there is a high hill at 50 meters, what will happen? Will the autopilot know there is a hill and it will fly over it if we click on verify altitude? or only it will check the altitude at the waypoint itself?

So, what will happen? will crash into the hill?

  • It will assume a linear slope between the waypoints, so in your example it will hit the mountain. You can use the Elevation Profile view to see this. This option now includes elevation data between waypoints.
Hopefully someday a good 3D mission planner will be available. I really need this.
    • HI Iskess,

Thanks for the reply. Do yo think is it so difficult to make a way for the mission planner to read the path altitude and give an alert before we send the plan to the ardupilot? At least it can tell the operator to create a waypoint above the hill.

      Hopefully we can do it.
