FUTABA T8UAP Radio

I all. I'm using a Futaba 8ch radio T8UAP wich has several possible modes of configuration. Since I'm a newbie in the matter, I had it configured as "HELI SW1", wich means helicopter swashplate type 1. I configured it like this because the Arducopter looks like a helicopter. WRONG !!! If you have a radio like this, I believe you should use the ACRO mode. When in HELI mode, the throtlle interacted with rudder, not acting independent, I believe there's some kind of predefined mixing in order to compensate the torque effect of an heli. Besides, you could only use ch8 knob and ch7 3 position switch.

When in HELI, I could only get rudder full left, when throttle was at min position and rudder full left, for rudder full right, throttle had to be at 100% and rudder stick to the right. If throttle min and rudder full left, the value I got, was not max left rudder and vice versa for right (you can check this with pwm test in Mission Planner).

Now I'm using the ACRO mode wich let's all the controls act independent and I have ch6, 7 and 8 knobs free to use with the modes and control a camera pan and tilt, if I want to (haven't tryied ch5).

  • You need to turn off rudder/collective mixing if your going to use the radio in heli mode.... most of the heli guys i know use heading hold gyros, there is no need for it. Just get the book out for your set and have a look its in there somewhere... or tell me the radio and i'll check it for you..
  • That's correct, you must use aeroplane mode (ACRO) not helicopter mode on your radio, so that all channels remain independent, except for any mixing you choose to do on the flight mode channel in order to get the six flight modes (I recommend mixing flap with flap if your radio supports that, so you only tie up one radio channel for flight mode.)
