Hello DIY Community!!

I'm going to be ordering my first ever quadcopter and after some research I have decided to break the bank and pay the $750 on the IRIS.   I currently do not have a transmitter that will allow for the full capability of the Pixhawk autopilot so the $750 deal seems fair enough to me.  I totaled up a build with the popular F450 frame and it came to a little over 700 dollars transmitter and all. I feel that since i'm new to quadcopters paying the 50 dollars more to make sure i have all I need is good enough.  I'm going to let this idea sit around before i jump the gun and hit the buy button.  I'll probably order this in a day or two so any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated!

I'm just getting involved in this community and so I'm looking to meet others who are also interested in this.

Excited about the upcoming adventure,

Dan

  • I don't know why you don't get a Micro Quadcopter to learn to fly with first. The Hubsan X4's or the Walkera QR Ladybirds are a good starting point. You can check out some alternatives at droneflyers.wordpress.com

You wouldn't buy a Ferrari as your first car would you? So get a Micro or a SymaX5C Quadcopter practice your skills then move up.

    • Thanks Paul. I was actually going to go to the local hobbyshop and pick out a micro while I wait for my Ferrari of a quadcopter to ship in :).   So you recommend Hubsan X4 or Walkera QR Ladybird?    That ladybird seems like too much fun hahah. The representative at my local hobby shop recommended the Blade Nano QX because he said it handles well and is much more durable than others.

This website mentions another one called the UDI U818A which looks very tough.  360 degree bumpers on the blades and a FPV video camera :).

I agree a micro with FPV would be good and fun training with FPV flying and simply just learning to fly.

I appreciate your comments it is helpful.
