Heading from GPS without moving?

Hi,
I want to buy the Venus GPShttp://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9133.I read the Information about the NMEA for the communication between
Arduino and GPS. I read that the GPS shows me my Heading. Is that right?
Ifyes, is it possible to see a heading when I am not moving, because I
will put it into an rc boat, and I can be very slow sometimes?
Do Ihave to place the GPS to certain direction?

  • To answer your last question, no. The GPS calculates heading by referencing to the last set of coordinates and making a quick calculation; you can position the GPS in any way you like, it will not affect the heading, speed or any other reference-based values.

The GPS directional vector is random when you are not moving on all GPSs. For ground and water vehicles, which can stop or move slowly, you should use a magnetometer.
