Heavy multicopter PID values

Hi DIYDRONES,

I finished making my hexacopter and tried to fly twice but they both ended up with terrible crashes. Eventually, I have realized I really have to adjust the PID values. Could someone who has or had a multicopter weighing around 4kg share its PIDs?

Specs

  • Motors: NTM 35-36A 1800Kv 875W
  • ESCs: Redbrick 80A
  • Board: APM2.6 w/external compass
  • Batteries: 4S/5000mAh/25-35C Li-Pos, three paralled

Also, each of my ESCs are manually callibrated but they do not start up slowly. Even if I increase the throttle a little bit the aircraft jumps up suddenly. Do I need to program the ESCs? I hope not,

  • I doubt that adjusting the default PIDs will make the difference between a copter that crashes and one that doesn't. Adjusting PIDs is more about tuning a copter for better performance. I've built small quads to a 7kg octocopter and they worked fine with the defaults. Later I did use the auto tuning function and saw improvement but it's certainly not the difference between flying and not flying.

    You might want to start a thread on the support forums to get some more specific help. The first thing you will want to do is make sure that you provide logs from the flights that crashed. Without logs the amount of assistance that people can provide will be limited.

    I hope you track down the issues. It can be extremely frustrating when copters aren't flying correctly.
