Help figuring out gimbal with APM

Hi all,

My lovely wife bought me a simple gimbal for my quad and surprised me with it and a GoPro (told you she was lovely). I know nothing about this stuff, so thought I would ask for help here. The gimbal only has one servo - for tilt. I am unclear on how to get it working with the APM2 and would love input from anyone who knows what they are talking about :)

Main question is whether the tilt servo is something I set up to be directly controlled by a radio channel (maybe on a pot) or does the APM use it to counter the pitch of the quad?

Thanks in advance for helping a Noob.

  • Got it sorted. That was easier than I expected.

Mission Planner now has direct support for gimbal control. In this case I selected Pitch and set it to use channel 11. Plugged in the servo to that connector as shown in the Wiki. Set Channel 6 as the input channel.

Now channel 6 which is on a pot on my TX sets the angle and the angle is maintained by the APM to counter pitch byt the quad.

Piece of cake. Everything in life should be this easy.

  • I haven't done this yet, but you could start here.
