Hi all

I am building a RC paramotor. So far with (including) the following specs it is estimated to weigh about 1kg. But I am not sure if this combination will work out. And since my project has a budget constraint, I cant just randomly buy a lot of different motors or esc and trial and run. Can I get some suggestions?

My system right now:

Battery: Turnigy 1600mAh 3S 20C

ESC: TURNIGY Plush 30amp Speed Controller

Motor:
924kv
Standard current 6-14A
Max current 17A

Propeller: 10x4.7 slow flyer

Canopy/wing/parafoil:
width: 215cm
Length:54cm
weight: 190g

  • wow....backwards....thats pretty awesome man.

So from your point of view
a stronger motor is almost definite
    How is this one?

And may I ask, whats the rationale behind your choice of battery.
How did you mind estimate it. I'm having trouble selecting batteries.

I am already building my trike....it'll look something like this

I only know engines for big paramotors due I used to have one 18HP paraengine with 28m2 canopy. But that might be a bit too big for this purpose :)

About your questions. Hmm how you plan to build your rig? Trike or what type?

Your canopy looks rather big and it should carry few kilos really easily. Like said, my real canopy was 28m2 and it carrier me + motor which was around 100kg so really rough calculation would be 3.5kg per 1m2. Naturally when canopies are getting smaller, playload will get smaller too so let's say that your canopy can carry 2kg easily.

Your ESC looks rather ok but I would suggest a lot bigger battery for it, maybe 4000 mAh 3S 25-30C. Also your motor could be a bit bigger due it will be under heavy load all the time and you don't want to push KDA20-22L over 90% constantly. So some extra RPMs would be good for it and that way you can create some extra thrust.

Pushing paramotors/paragliders needs quite lot of power due they are not the "slimmest" one wings. Also you need to remember that you can only fly those on at no wind or wind less than 3m/s conditions.

I bet this canopy maximum flying speed is around 5m/s. So if you have more wind than that, you either fly backwards or you need to over come it with over sized thrust. Even tho pushing it against 6-7m/s winds with big motor will be hard.

My real motor had 70kg of thrust and wing's flying speed was 8m/s. And yes I have done some .. Backwards landings too ;)
