    It is traditional to power the RX from input (APM left most pins, same as receiver pins) channel #8, middle pin is +5vcc, lower pin is ground. Connect these to your RX power PINs. On the APM, the top pin is receiver input, and is usually not used. If you have an 8 channel receiver, you can take a normal servo cable, pull out the control wire, and then insert it from the APM to the RX, connecting only the middle and lower pins on each device. 

     

    I cannot say if the diagram is accurate for Helis, I have only quads and planes, but I have no reason to suspect that it is not. I think it is a fairly recent image, and that page was last updated five hours ago, so it should be up to date. 

     

    Certainly I'd recommend a tethered first flight, and a full preflight checklist/testing before trusting it. Even if you get it all right, you could have a lose cable.
