Hello good people,
I am building my own quad and currently I'm having problems taking it up in the air. I am using:
4 x SunnySky v3508 580Kv motors
4 x 3DR ESCs 20A SimonK
4S LiPo battery Zippy Compact 5000 mAh
APM 2.6 with 3DR uBlox GPS
I think it's a nice set and ecalc tells me that it can lift a maximum of 3.5 kg (7.7 pounds)(which is at perfect conditions). The test frame I'm using with added safety features weights 2.6 kg (5.72 pounds). The problem is I'm not getting any airtime. When I set the stick to max thrust it goes off slowly, hovers at around 2m and loses power and drops to the ground. I noticed that 1 motor isn't spinning as fast as the others, but don't know where's the problem. I synced all 4 of the ESCs with the all at ones method. Have any of you had a similar problem and where should I look to fix it. Thanks for the answers in advance!

What size props are you using and what is the all up weight?
Hey, thanks for the reply. I'm using 12x3.8 Carbon Fiber Props, but they're are all balanced and stuff. I haven't got them wrong also. I tested the quad on a scale and it's pulling alright, but it seems not as much as it should. The up weight is 2.6 kilos (5.72 pounds). I checked the motor's specs table and it can go ok with these props sizes, so should be no problem I guess.
hmm have you try swapping the ESCs to isolate if its the ESC or the motor thats problematic
then the case if the prop size match the motor specs ,
then frequency / rate of the flight controller to the escs
im afraid you need to take the whole thing apart and test every component individually
then turn all features of flight controller controller off? (Alt hold Mag hold GPS basicaly all autopilot features in the exception of auto level should you ever need them. ) you have to test this thing manually flying it
calibrate your unit then try again.
Ecalc is great for rough estimates but results may vari depending on weather temperature and battery condition
Hey, thanks for the reply. I am currently trying to check every component. So far I calibrated the ESCs one by one and everything worked brilliantly. I mean every motor, when turned alone, pulled so much that it was almost flipping the whole thing from the table, which I don't really see when all of them are working. When I power the 4 motors it looks like power is not enough, which made me think that the problem is actually in the power supply. I asked a local LiPo battery supplier and he said that he stopped importing Zippy-s, because of power loss or wrong C ratings. I also found a video of a russian guy with his model airplane:

My problem is exactly the same. The quad barely stays in the air, when there is no wind.
