Hexa recovery capability

On a hexa frame, i ask myself if it is possible to fly (at least for urgency landing) with only three 120° spaced motors. (if there is enough thrust).

 

It would be like a tricopter, so i suppose we'll loose yaw control.

 

But will it be possible to make an urgency landing at least like this ? Or will the APM be confused by this setup ?

    Th next 2.0.39 should be able to handle this. What happens is the throttle maxes out to 80% and the lower motors will clip above 100% This energy is used to lower the opposing motor for more stability. I have it running on quads in 38 and I lost an ESC at 30 feet. It came down without flipping which was amazing. Not sure it will avoid flipping in every scenario but it handles it much more gracefully.
