Hexacopter does not work in cold environments

Hi

I've built myself a hexacopter purchased from the martint (build your own drone) that has verygood service:)

I have spektrum dx8 as r/c controller

I have a strange problem, lives far north in Norway so here is Temperature around 0 degreesnowadays.

When I connect the battery to hexacopters outdoor sound engines of rapid beeps and will not start, indoors it works very well.

If I keep my finger on FDTI micro chip on the blue circuit board (APM 2560), the beeper graduallydisappeared. I have tried another blue circuit board and it's the same problem.

Some times 2 and 3 motors works, and the other beeps.

But I will not fly if the fault Temperature-dependent and come back in the air.

Anybody have any ideas about what can be?

    Hello Arnt-Inge,

Now that is an interesting question! I have flown my plane in very low temps, the temp must have been that low and I did not see any issues, however the only check I could do here is pop an APM in the freezer and take it right down in temp and go from there, I guess they are made in a slightly warmer part of the world!

The plane in the picture is / was running the Foxtrap board not the new Hotel, so not sure if this makes a change or not..... I will try the freezer test in the morning...... -18c should let us know :)

    Regards

    Martin

  • Hmm... I'm still flying, in temperatures around or below +10 degrees C and intend to keep flying at winter if at all possible. I wouldn't like it one bit if just a bit of a chill grounds these things!
