Hi

I've built myself a hexacopter purchased from the martint (build your own drone) that has verygood service:)

I have spektrum dx8 as r/c controller

I have a strange problem, lives far north in Norway so here is Temperature around 0 degreesnowadays.

When I connect the battery to hexacopters outdoor sound engines of rapid beeps and will not start, indoors it works very well.

If I keep my finger on FDTI micro chip on the blue circuit board (APM 2560), the beeper graduallydisappeared. I have tried another blue circuit board and it's the same problem.

Some times 2 and 3 motors works, and the other beeps.

But I will not fly if the fault Temperature-dependent and come back in the air.

Anybody have any ideas about what can be?

Hmm... I'm still flying, in temperatures around or below +10 degrees C and intend to keep flying at winter if at all possible. I wouldn't like it one bit if just a bit of a chill grounds these things!

Hello Arnt-Inge,

Now that is an interesting question! I have flown my plane in very low temps, the temp must have been that low and I did not see any issues, however the only check I could do here is pop an APM in the freezer and take it right down in temp and go from there, I guess they are made in a slightly warmer part of the world!

The plane in the picture is / was running the Foxtrap board not the new Hotel, so not sure if this makes a change or not..... I will try the freezer test in the morning...... -18c should let us know :)

Hello again Arnt-Inge, just seen the note on the photo, -7c I will still test one of the new boards to see if it works ok and report back on the freezer test.......

Martin.

thank you for reply, I have made an interesting discovery when I heat one and a esc with the finger ends beeps from from the motors, and it works one by one.

Is it possible that the signal cable to the esc is to long?  or esc have wrong settings. I will try to work it out.

Now I have tested the esc directly on the RC receiver and the error is still there when the esc is cold. Then we can conclude that APM is functioning properly. I have to get some new regulators that cane used in cold or that there are some settings on those who need to be changed?

Ok, I have no need to deep freeze the APM then :) I will try an esc in the freezer on Sunday and report back, the plane picture show had a different esc to that of the copters, soI would not have tested one, yet....

I will keep you updated.

Martin

Hello Martin

I have solved the problem. The failure is because I am using separate bec for 5v, not 5v from the esc. I put the power direkt into APM terminal not into the PCB. Now I am put the power from extern bec into PCM terminal as orginal and it works great. I think the fail was bad ground for all the esc?, I dont no why this occur only when the esc is about 0 to 5 degree C.

Thank you Martin for your excelent service anyway:)

Hello Arnt Inge,

You are welcome, I'm pleased you have found the cause of the issue!

Happy flights :)

I have build the ground station kit, after that I have tried to search for some  programming manual, how to conect the FDTI cable (polarity), how to make antenna tracking++ but I have not yet found any good link for that?
