i know only the basics but even then not much. I know that you have Inrunner motors and Outrunner motors for electric motors. i also know you have gas motors as well. i have a basic idea/concept of what i want my drone to look like how ever i have no clue about any of the electronic parts. In short i know practically nothing and all of my drone research leads me to news clips of drones and terrorism. Can anyone help and give me a basic concept of the working parts and how they work together?

Hi Benjamin,
You can start at the diy drones informational site for APM Plane here:
http://plane.ardupilot.com/
Or for some even more basic information you can try my Drones Are Fun site here:
http://www.dronesarefun.com/
If you just look around a bit I think you will find plenty of data.
For the most part I would definitely plan on starting with electric not fuel ( which just adds a further degree of complexity and difficulty).
And unless you have a good takeoff and landing field nearby I would suggest you consider multicopters - in particular quadcopters as these can be flown almost anywhwere and are easy to learn to fly.
For those you can start on my Quadcopters Are Fun Site here:
http://quadcoptersarefun.com/index.html
And get more thorough APM oriented information here:
http://copter.ardupilot.com/
Hope this helps.
At any time, if you need any specific information please feel free to contact me through the Email given on my Are Fun sites.
Best Regards,
Gar
