How to power the receiver

Hello guys. I'm at the final stages of building my very first quadcopter! Very exciting times, my friends!

I have just a few questions, I do not have a power distribution board, so I'm powering the APM 1.4 using one of my ESCs, disconnecting the + wire from the other three.

I just got my Turnigy 9x 8ch receiver (first one, so not the best, but good for starting my quadrotor life). I plugged channels 1,2,3,4 and 6 to the APM.

First, every channel has 3 wires, signal, + and -. The receiver can draw power from the + and - wires? Connecting just the channels is enough to power the receiver?

Second, the AUX2 - CH 6 I can tell what's for, but channel 5 - AUX1 (GPS), what's its function? It is just to turn on and off the GPS?

Thank you very much! Hope to be flying soon!

CHEERS!

1st: yes the receiver is powered from just any channel plug, it's a low current device so there is enough to power the receiver and APM from the one ESC's BEC circuit (but not to power anything more).

2nd; check this page if you haven't already: http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/wiki/AC2_Radio

CH5 is mode selection, CH6 not used initially.
