IMU Shield Broken

I think my IMU shield died. It was working ok the other day but now the ABC LEDs never flash and the MAVlink won’t connect. I confirmed the switch position but it won’t work.

I have manual control but other modes don’t work any more. In other than manual the servos won’t move by radio or when I tilt the airplane.

I checked all the other LEDs and they are correct. The main board indicates that MUX and PPM functions are correct when I switch transmitter modes. I also checked voltages and the pins that were suppose to be 5v all showed about 4.8v with the USB connected and 4.9 with the BEC cowered.

The terminal mode works and I reloaded the firmware (2.26) that I had been flying and it still does not work. I ran all the tests in the terminal mode and they seamed to be working (numbers changed when I moved the aircraft).

Before I order another IMU Shield/OilPan does anyone have any suggestions? If this is a common problem maybe I will just upgrade to the APM 2.0 as its not that much more.

Have you look at this Discussion?

I had something that sound like yours, this worked for me a few times. I went back to 2.24 firmware. I can't seem to find just what in the 2.26 causes my problem, but have been flying good with 2.24 again.

On 2.26 I can only get 3 flights, then it just doesn't seem to boot all the way. Another clue is use the CLI mode, when it boots it has a high number of resets, A lot more then it should have.

    hope this helps

I'm not too familiar with the airplane code (I only work on the heli/quad code) but I wonder if maybe it's the little white switch itself that's broken.  Perhaps it's always going into the CLI mode because it believes the switch is in the reverse position.

My next guess would be the connection to the dataflash.  If the SPI pins circled in the picture aren't done properly the APM will freeze on start-up.  Check out the troubleshooting guide and look for this image.

  • Is there a way to tell if it’s a main board or a top board problem? I would hate to but the wrong one!

Is there any repair service available for the APM?
