Interpreting 3 axis acceleration readings

Hi,

I have interfaced Freescales 7620 3 axis accelerometer and am getting the readings properly.

Now I have difficulty in understanding the readings, If it is mounted on table stationary, then the X,Y read 1.65V (0g) and in Z axis 0.85V (-1g).

My question is: What will be the readings in free fall condition? Assuming it wont tilt in falling.

My application involves measuring forces on a can during free fall. In real world there will be airdrag, gravity acting on the can. The can will also tilt and maybe rotate.  I want to measure the net acceleration on the can during free fall.

How do I do this with the voltage readings?

Regards,

Vinay

  • Objects in freefall are weightless, experiencing zero net inertially measurable acceleration (so all three axes will read 0 g under ideal conditions).
