Iris+ FPV setup for GoPro 4

Has anyone tried the excellent CloudSurfer (Mr. Elsen's) write-up on installing and configuring FPV w/ telemetry?  https://www.cloud-surfer.net/2014/09/28/fpv-setup-for-iris/

I ordered most components right from the article but had a couple things I was hoping to make work.  Unofortunately, I'm stumped right off the bat.  I already had a video transmitter and GoPro USB adapter.  Not sure though if it will work as it's not yet clear to me how all the individual wires are assigned.  Pic of what I have to work w/ attached.  Anyone think it's still doable?

  • On your FPV TX you have two cables coming out:

    - Cable with red plug. This is for power and goes onto the LC power filter, which in returns connects to the FatShark filtered balance lead.

    - Cable with black plug. This is for the video signal. the red wire is for video out and black is for ground. Look at figure 10 in the guide for how to connect it to the MinimOSD.

With IRIS+ you will need to make a custom Y cable that comes out of Telem1 port on the Pixhawk, one connection goes into the 3DR radios (just as it does today). The other one goes into the MinimOSD. Unfortunately such a cable doesn't exist today. As an alternative you could give up the Telemetry to the R/C radio and use Telem2 on the Pixhawk for the MinimOSD. In that case you can use the cable you have right now. But you will not have Telemetry on the R/C radio (just like IRIS didn't have this).

Otherwise everything is in the guide and you should be good to go.

    • Awesome, thanks Christian, I'll give it a shot.  I don't mind loosing the telemetry to the R/C radio if I'll have it OSD w/ Droid Planner to boot.  I hadn't gotten used to looking down at my controller for that kind of stuff yet anyway.
