Live video streaming with a Drone

Hi, I'm working for a local electric utility. we are planning to purchase drones for the purpose of observing vegetation in our electric distribution lines. for this it is essential to have a live streaming with drone and ground. i know it's possible to record the video with a camera but i'm looking for a live streaming video solution for this. with the live stream, i'll be able to move the drone to the places where i need to capture more details.otherwise i have to record everything, then analyses at the ground and resend the drone again and aging until i capture the information required. how can I implement this? are there any free bandwidths available?what are the types of transmitters and receivers and what will be the communication distance (this may need to fly several kilometers away while downloading the live stream) ? Please advise Thanks

  • Do some searching for "FPV" and you'll turn up more info than you know what to do with. There's plenty of turnkey FPV systems which operate on no-license-required frequencies like 5.8ghz. Personally I use this, wina go pro as the camera. It sends video to my FPV system, and records a super hi res version on the camera for later viewing.
    • Dear Scott,

thanks for the feedback and i have searched more on FPV as suggested by. like to clarify two things regarding fpv

      1. found some links in ebay like following one. seems worth for the cost and to test as a biginner.

      http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-8Ghz-FPV-Video-TX-RX-200mW-11db-antenna-7...

Are they enough for the initial testing with a good coverage (like 1 km range)?      2. what is the different applications of digital fpv vs analogue fpv. which is better and why?

      • I wouldn't expect more than 100 meters with a clear line of sight with this system.   It's cheap though, and might be a good proof-of-concept system to get started with.   Range depends on many factors, including frequency, antennas, environment/terrain, transmitter power and quality, receiver.   If you need to go 1KM, you might want to hold out for a digital cellular system like this:  http://www.skydrone.aero/fpv.
