Long Range DSLR Camera control

Hello, new here but by the posts I came to the right place. Amazing stuff you guys are working on.Maybe you could help me on this:I have a Nikon's Camera Control Pro software which when used with the WT-4 wireless transmitter (802.11a/b/g and 802.3/u) allows me to remotely control most of the stuff in the camera and also provides Live View from the camera's viewfinder. The problem is that range is very limited [even when using an Alfa Wireless Adapter] and I wanted to extend the working range to +-1km. Searched the web for solutions and couldn't find any. Any idea/suggestions about where and what hardware I should look into?Jorge

  • Looking at it you might be able to swap out the existing antenna for a higher gain one on the TX unit. It uses a RP-SMA connector for its antenna sockets so slapping on a high gain omni shouldn't be that stressful.

http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=382 looks into some extensive mods to push the power output even further.

    Hi Jorge,
I was looking for some long range camera trigger too, thanks for WT-4 lead :) . What is the range you are looking for?
I have installed some long range wifi briges/AP , Alfa is one of highest powered(500 mW) wifi card available in market now and is pretty cheap. In some versions it came with a small patch antenna which would increase its range to decent level. 1 K.M should not be a problem at all. The product I used for long range wifi link is from a company called Hotware and I have tested/installed it for range exceeding 3 k,m multiple times. The bridge was outdoor model with builtin patch antenna with 100mW power and so alfa would / should work.

How does WT4 interface with camera. I hate to rig up servo to press the camera shutter of a expesive camera.

@Dave , Interface from blip look like it will do the job I am looking for canon sd200is but I have check , thanks for the link.
  • It's a little pricey, but this is right up your alley.
