lose firmware??

I have apm 2.5 with a fixed wing aircraft. I am running the arduplane 2.72 and like how my plane flies with this version so I have not bothered to update mission planner OR the latest firmware for arduplane.

I just got my son a amp 2.6, power module, gps, and telemetry. My question is if I connect his apm 2.6 to my pc and direct mission planner to download the latest arducopter [ he's into quads ] will I lose the 2.72 firmware for my plane? Or is that firmware on the apm itself? Stupid question I know it is but I don't yet understand how mission planner plays a role in the process. He will control his copter with an android version after its up and running. But I want to make sure I can connect back to my plane and all will be the same as it was. I.e. arduplane 2.72 and all my params will remain.... Im not computer savy enough to know how it all works so any pointers will be greatly appriciatited. Especially to my 7 year old who can wait to see his apm 2.6 on the telemetry with a gps lock!!

Thanks

  • The firmware is on the APM, and you can use one mission planner with multiple APMs running different firmware revisions.

You should be fine to update your mission planner and then install Arducopter 3.1 on your Son's board.
