This may be a simple question. I have a low voltage alarm that looks like it plugs into my lipo tap. But I see videos of guys soldering them directly to the esc. Is that right? Or is it meant to be plugged into tap?

By using the balance port for the alarm, it can alert you if a single cell fails. If you use the voltage at the ESC the alarm would be delayed until the sum of all batteries drops below the threshold.
Thanks for the reply. However I am still confused. While flying, would you solder to your esc, or plug into the tap? Thanks.

If by "tap" you mean balance port, then yes you just plug it in there. No soldering. Maybe you are talking about something totally different and I am misunderstanding you. Provide a photo to be sure.
