Magnometer mounting on Helicopter

In the manual for the ArduCopter Helicopter, it recommends mounting the magnometer components up, pins forward but every other reference has it mounted components down, pins forward.  I have installed my magneometer as recomended via the Heli manual, but it is not returning good data (it looks like there is a hard iron interference, but I'm not sure).

Is the code for the Heli modified for the components up, pins forward configuration of the magneometer or do I have to change this?  If so, how can I get access to the code (with all of the my configurations) that is downloaded and used in the AMP?

    John,

That's right, for the heli the default is to mount the components right-side-up pins forward and the code that is downloaded through the AP Mission Planner has it set this way.  This is a bit arbitrary..I could make it components down to be consistent with all the other installations.  Let me think about that.

One thing you definitely cannot do on the heli is directly mount the mag on the APM because this will mean it's quite close to the engine and ESC and I expect this will lead to large offsets.

Can you copy-paste the mag values you're seeing?  If it's offsets and you're using ACM, it should sort itself out after the first flight.  also best to use nylon screws when mounting the mag to the heli's tail...that'll count down on interference.
