I am doing a lot of research in the hopes of using a multicopter for detailed mapping of small areas at an archaeological site.
When looking at cameras Wide angle cameras have a lot of benefit for general AP, but are they a benefit or problem when doing mapping.
I would assume wide angle lenses have greater distortion which could increase errors in mapping images.
I plan to start with Palantier or some other freeware option for mapping, I am also looking at photogrammetry software like Archgis, or Agisoft once I have tried out freware options.

Yes, a very wide angle is a problem to do mapping, see for a normal wide angle, you can correct some distortion with software if you dont have many pictures to stich
