Hello Everyone,
this is what I have and what I have done.
I have APM 1.0 (running the the 1.02), Mediatek GPS with the 1.6 firmware. I enabled the line and added the 16 to the APM_Config.h
#define GPS_PROTOCOL GPS_PROTOCOL_MTK16
When I plug one end of the USB cable to my computer and the other end to the oilpan, after a few minutes, the blue light in the GPS becomes solid. Also, in the Oilpan, I see a solid red light in C and solid green light in A when I move the switch toward the servo input (test mode) to test the GPS.In the CLI when I type "test" and "gps" it gives me a fairly accurate Lat, Long, Alt, with 0 #sats after waiting for about 10-15 more minutes.
If I move the switch back, the whole warming up process takes place and then the solid red light comes back in C and the yellow light in B. When I test the GPS with the GCS (happykillmore) and using my xBees, I get the same coordinates but when I move the last 4-6 digits tend to change just like in the CLI above, but I still don't have any satellites.
I have pressed the reset button in the oilpan after power up in normal mode and I have waited about 15 minutes outside away from buildings and trees, I get some coordinates but don't have any SAT lock.
I have read several forums that I have read the manual and threads in the forum that have helped me get here, but I haven't found an answer when I get solid lights and still no satellites. I know I have 1.6 because I reflashed the firmware successfully (got the green circle).
Thanks for your help

If you have a solid red LED, then you have gps lock. Number of satellites is not reported correctly in APM 1.0. I'm not sure it is even correct in APM 2.0 at the moment... But rest assured that if the LED is solid red you have gps lock. If it is flashing red then each toggle represents a message received from the gps (without lock) and if it is off then you are not receiving messages from the gps.
