I made an early purchase of the MediaTek GPS before the adapter boards were available so it came with the original firmware. I purchased an adapter board, attached the GPS, and was able to successfully upgrade the GPS firmware using the MediaTek programming instructions. However the GPS, when hooked to the APM, will not respond with GPS data using the APM GPS Test Program even though it displays a solid blue led after ~3 minutes. I know that the GPS cable and test program are working correctly as I have a newer Mediatek GPS that works fine with the APM.
Is there anyother programming that must be done to the MediaTek GPS after the firmware upgrade to get it to run at 38400 baud in the binary mode and if so what app should I use?

do you get something in the RAW gps debug mode? Or also nothing?
When I run my AP on battery (instead of USB) I have to explicitly tell it to go intgo binary again each time by passing this command through Serial 1 (gps) $PGCMD,16,0,0,0,0,0*6A after the GPS initiation sequence.
Also do you use the latest firmware? http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/new-mtk-firmware-fix-update?xg_...
Eh, that's the problems I can recall to have had =]
