G'day,
Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
Is this possible and/or feasible for your high-end hobbyist UAV quadcopter?
Sub 500g, 100m detection range, 360 degree coverage and like a $100 or so in parts?
The way I envision it would be something like:
360 degree rotating antenna that rotates very quickly and has a rotary encoder that can cope with the speed
Using a low-cost TX/RX that has approval like 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz wifi radios
Something like a RPi to pull all of the RX info together (maybe an FPGA to do DSP also)
Or am I completely missing something, I have some experience with RADAR but it was this bad boy:

If you don't like clicking links its a 132KW monster military radar with a 310 mile range, rotating 6 times a minute and I think transmitting 255 pulses per second at 1-2Ghz.
I found this link to a recent article for a tiny low range radar, seems like I just need something just a little bit beefier :)
