Hey Everyone,

This post is going to be as much for me as anything else. A sort of journal if you will. A blind mans trip down a murky pathway without a cane. For some it will be painfully inane, for others it will be a chance to laugh at a noob, and for others, probably those yet to join here, it may serve as an educational for what not to do :)

I will add comments and photos as I go which will be designed to highlight mistakes and learnings, much of which will likely be obvious to seasoned builders.

I will start by saying that I will promise to only post a question about what the hell i am supposed to do AFTER i have thoroughly searched all known sources. For me, this venture into the unknown is the real adventure, so forgive me for choosing not to take the advice that i should start with something simple and work my way up.

My goal is a UAV that can take my Canon D610 and fly around the coast near where I live taking awesome images and reels of the shore, surfing, and general landscape of the area. (Southern NSW, Australia). For now, though, i will learn to build, then learn to fly, then learn to get footage with a GoPro and then, AND ONLY THEN, i will buy a gimbal for D610 and mount it. Crashing and killing the UAV is one thing, I am not going to practice with my DSLR!

I have been using copter.ardupilot.com as my central planning resource, and scouring the web for additional research. I have bought a range of things, for which I am sure I will find was the wrong thing to buy for whatever reason; from wrong plug types, to incompatibility.

The Christmas break is coming and I intend to use it attempting to put together this beast using the parts below that I just bought;

  • 8 x TAROT 5008/340KV multi-rotor brushless motor TL96020 (TL96020)
  • 1 x Tarot T18 aerial / Plant Protection UAV TL18T00 (TL18T00)

    Good luck and you are being honest with yourself! Don't fly any camera until you have at least 10 hours of fligth time on your new machine. All the quirks should be ironed out by then!

    • Thanks Gary. Here's hoping :)
