When I try to "pick previous firmware" on the firmware screen, I get the following:
Using Win 8, MP 1.2.35, connected to APM 2.5 via USB.
I am a newbie, so how do I upload firmware versions prior to 2.9.1 ?

Those are the Git hash files of previous releases. When you click on one all the Version Numbers under the aircraft icons will change to reflect the human-readable number (2.7.3, etc) that hash corresponds to.
