Hi, I am a new member and need to know, if what I ask, is at all possible?

I purchased my Iris+ from 3D Robotics in March of this year and it performed flawlessly up until the 24th of July when all pandemonium and anarchy broke out.

I decided that I would like to change the yaw rate as it is to fast during autonomous mission flights.  I have a Tarot T-2d gimbal with a Hero Black GoPro.  I am currently using the 1.3.30 edition of Mission Planner with my laptop.

I wanted to set the gear switch on the RC controller to slow it down when necessary but unfortunately that did not work and left the controller completely inoperable. Huge mistake!  The controller wouldn’t fly or engage the Iris at all. I contacted 3D Robotics and had them send me the controller reset procedure via my Email. This partially helped but would throttle up to about midway on the stick, shut itself down and then disarm. Both a friend and I independently compared the new settings that were inputted and found nothing amiss on the controller reset.

Mission Planner was used during this trouble shoot and the HUD display read “RC not calibrated” in red letters. I calibrated the Tx controller again, only to find it kept doing the same thing every time I tried to fire up the Iris. Later, I tried the RC calibration in MP itself and realized that this was the calibration warning that MP meant but it didn’t help either.  I also reloaded the default setting in mission planner, did the Compass, Accelerometers, Radio, Esc calibrations which made matters even worse.  For some reason it now keeps telling me that I need to do the compass and radio calibrations again, as if they were never written in Mission Planner. In addition, it has now messed my 3DR telemetry module. The Mav Link starts stating: “missing heart beat warnings and then it does its countdowns” when I try to connect.  I am taking a real dim view of all this, especially since I caused this. It’s the proverbial “trying to herd 11 cats in a corn field”... and it’s getting worse.

So what I need to do is the procedure to set everything back to factory stock, that is, just the way it worked from the day it arrived in March, if possible. A step by step would be wonderful.  I would love to fix this myself and not have to send it back to 3DR. The logs really don’t help as I’ve had them reviewed but I can send them again.

This whole episode has caused such stress to the undersigned that I had to activate my dental plan because it loosened up some of my fillings.  Someone out there must have had something similar happen like I describe but  with a happy ending.  Please help!  Thanks….

Respectfully,

Peter Corrigan

  • Bill,

Thanks a million, I am sincerely grateful. I re-flashed the Iris+ using APM Planner 2.0, did the calibrations and all is "good". I wish I had contacted you earlier.

I deleted the other duplicate posts... One is enough.

You can always try APM Planner 2.0. When you start off by flashing the firmware, you can select the Iris+ param file to download and install. You will still need to calibrate compass, radios and ESCs. But the procedure is to start on the Initial Setup view, and click each button in the left hand side in order. The only optional one required is the battery setup, and that just requires clicking the right selection. It should be clear

You can get APM planner 2.0 from http://ardupilot.com/downloads/?category=35
    • Thanks Bill,

That information was much appreciated. I'll attempt this mid week when my company departs.
