HobbyKing is selling the Orange R710 Spektrum compatible 7-channel receiver which in addition to the usual PWM outputs also has a PPM/SBUS output.

I'd love to be able to use this as a PPM input into an APM2, but am concerned about channel assignments.  Using this receiver, there's no way in a DX7s or in the receiver itself to change channel assignments.  Could that be done through software?  Easily?

The PPM signal is channel 1-8 sent as a pulse train on a single wire, and the order of the main functions are 1. aileron, 2. elevator, 3. throttle, 4. rudder and the rest user defined. If Spektrum decided to mess with the channel order (in the ppm stream), they broke an established  standard just for the sake of breaking it.

Edit: Reading the manual for the receiver you mentioned (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uploads/80983972X7478X3.pdf) I see no mention of PPM output. Only S.bus.
