I lost track of the time and am getting back in to building my quad.
I see Arducopter 1 & 2. I am going to assume a new main board?
I also downloaded the controller built by M.Osbone.
Will this work witrh the older version of the control unit?

Not quite sure what you mean, but ArduCopter 2 is just new software. It uses the same APM hardware, although it's advisable to upgrade to the latest version of the APM board (APM2560) for future compatibility.
The Mission Planner will only work with the ArduCopter2 software (again, there is no new hardware)
