New to Drones and Arduino

Hey I'm new to the forums and new to the arduino.

I want to someday build an actual working flyable "smart" (helicopter) drone.

Since I don't have a lot of money for trial and error, or enough of the knowledge to get it right the first time, I must say that I can't build a drone at the time.

In the mean time, I wonder, What is the best way to learn?

I have never used an arduino board, so I assume I must start there. I'm going to start with the arduino deumilanove started kit. I'm also taking classes in C sharp programing.

Also what is the best helicopter I can practice with? I'm looking to buy it on stores (fry's, radio shack,)

So, now that you know my situation, feel free to answer my questions or comment. I really want to make this happen.

    thanks for the advice.
The task for a Helicopter does seem like a great feat. So, I will start with a fixed wing.
I do agree with what you have to say. And yes, being a teen I do teen things. So I'm sure that many times I will have to put aside my project for school and friends.

So overall, thanks for the welcome and hopefully sometime this year (summer most likely) I'll have my first UAV flying. But of course my goal of a smart helicopter will be within reach.

Helicopters are the hardest UAV challenge around. It's a PhD-level challenge. I suggest you start with fixed wing and move up.
