Newb - Can you look at this mission?

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question. I specifically want to look into a drone to fly this flight pattern (see at end) with a gopro camera, and then be able to post the video on youtube.

I would pretty much have LOS the whole time,
I would prefer to have a simple setup, such as an easystar.

I do not need live video, and would assume I would be out of range of manual control?
It looks like the furthest point I would be from the UAV is about 3-4 miles.

Does anyone let their UAV plane fly outside the range of manual control while on a mission?

How far have people let their UAV go on mission planning?
(dreaming of planning a mission out into the ocean to look for whales...)

Lots of questions, just trying to see if this is worth it for me :)

Here is the mission plan:

On a side note, anyone with a UAV and mission planning want to come run this route?!
Ryan

Your mission looks do-able with a proper airframe (and low wind speeds). I know that APM has been tested over distances greater than RC range. During the tests I know about people were following along underneath for safety, but once you have tested your system (and are sure the failsafe's are properly configure) then there should not be a problem with being out of rc range.
