I have read manual

And I have next questions.
1) In the manual I should buy ArduPilot Shield expansion board kit
As I see at the diagram

Thisshield is used only for GPS and for XYZ sensors ? is it true ?
And Ican work without that board if I  plug in gps in the ArduPilot mainboard ?

Next....

I want smooth speed control for mypropeller/throttler. Can I do it with ArduPilot?

    Yes, you can use the board without the shield, but it will not do stabilization so it should not be used for an aircraft without some other stabilization method.
