I'm wanting to build a Hexaquad. I want something that can handle some weight for photo/video. I've been looking around and ran across Tarot. They look pretty nice. Are the well balanced stable and reliable platforms to build on?

I don't know yet. I just picked it up yesterday. My first flying machine of any time. :)
I have not had a chance to fly it. I did bring it home, hooked it up to my PC and got it communicating with the DJI software. That's about all I've had time to do with it so far.
I'm flying a tarot frame myself, nothing to complain about it.
But i guess hexa(6 rotors)and quad(4 motors) is a little bit hard to build both in one frame... ;)
I'm flying a Tarot FY680 with the motor mounts of the 680 pro
You upgraded the motor mounts eh? I was wondering if that was possible. There is a tarot local on craigslist.
Do you have to use Tarot motors or can those be swapped out to use other brands?
I use Dys Motors for example out of hobbyking
The mounts will take most motors as they have fairly standard mounting holes/slits :)
