Ok so I want to get into the drone hobby, I was looking at the iris but I think it might be better to go with a y6 frame (assuming y6 is a better than iris) and go from there. I want to be able to FPV with a gopro hero3 silver and to be able to on the fly mission plan with a android phone.

Right now Im looking at a

Y6 Frame with electronics kit $290

915mhz 3DR radio set      $100

APM 2.6 MHz assembled $150

APM Power Module with XT60 Connectors Kit $0

3DR uBlox GPS with Compass Kit  $79.99

RC controller (suggestions welcome)

Storm All-in-One FPV Combo $270

Battery(suggestions welcome) My biggest beef with iris is the flight time. I'd like to be able to reach longer than 12 minutes.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

  • If you have never flown before I would highly recommend getting a simulator or small indoor quad to practice on before venturing into a Y6.

    • +1

Amazon has a bunch of mini/micro drones for under $50 to get you started. From personal experience, it is a million times more disheartening when you have to do a 2+ hour drone repair after a sub 2 minute flight :P

On the other hand, you learn really quickly how they work!
