Not enough lift on arducopter quad

I assembled my JDrones arducopter kit with the AC2836-358, 880Kv motors and the JDrones 30A ESC with 12x45 props. Everything worked fine (control, yaw, pitch etc) except that it does not get enough lift to get off the ground. Props are on the right way.

I went back over the assembly instructions and I had missed the step to add a layer of solder over the traces of the power distribution board, so I did that, but still no luck.

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what I might try to do next? I have tried both with a 2500mAh 25C 3s lipo as well as a 2200mAh 50C 3s lipo.

  • Finally got it working, thanks everyone for all the help. While I'm here can I ask if there is any problem with connecting the ESC leads directly into the APM headers instead of going through the power distribution board headers? I find that it is a bit finicky to arm the normal way

  • I would run one motor without the APM like on a RC reveiver by its self...

Run it to full and see if its much faster than the APM is doing..

  • Sound like your wires are too small or something like that..  Are the batteries new. ?

  • What is your total weight?  It's hard to believe that 880kv spinning 12" props would not lift. I am lifting 1380g with 10x6- three blade props. I am using 750kv motors, and lifting a 536g 4s 5ah battery- battery over 1/3 of total weight.  I went with a 4s drive battery to get higher voltage and hover at lower throttle.   Mine leaps off the ground at 35-40% throttle.
