...can I pull off the switch block and wire/configure these ports as outputs to control my HD170 camera by pushing it's buttons via software on the APM?
I plan to power the HD170 over its USB port, tying it to the ground of the APM so I'm assuming the control switches will be pulled to ground or 5V to trigger the action on the camera.
Is there any reason I shouldn't try this out?
Obviously I will do a little more poking around with the DVM before I wire it up, but am just checking for the obviously stupid in my idea. I plan to control it totally open-loop, unless I can find a way to read back it's current operation status via some LED level or something similar
PS: apologies that it's in the hardware support area. I couldn't find a separate APM1.0 hardware section.

Thanks Chris!
Robert, thanks for the pointer. I'll take a good look a this idea as it looks quite capable!
Andrew, have you considered using PortK?
Look at the "ShowLEDS" hack from u4eake and see how he's controlling the LED's. Maybe you could do something similar?
Yes, although I can't remember if those pins are digital or analog. Although you can read both types, you can only write to digital pins.
