I was watching the news this morning and they said that New York City has a new proposal out to ban all drone use in the city except by the police and only then after obtaining a warrant to do so.this could be old news but I thought I'd post it anyways.Cheers!

Not a lot of places you can fly anyway considering the rule will be 5 miles from any airport. My map shows 5 mile radius around airports, heliports, and seaplane bases (all considered airports).
To be fair, you shouldnt be flying in any city, on the grounds of safety. No wonder the authorities are clamping down when you get a couple of idiots doing so. In UK we have some idiots to........ like the other month we had someone flying there quad copter into heathrow airport air space. It will only take more idiots and we will probably lose a very good past time. If I ever see anyone being irresponsible I will not hesitate to report them to the authorities and let them sort it out. I love the sport and do not want to lose it.
I agree users need to be cognizant of risk. I'm afraid it will come down to the simple fact that 4 or more high speed blades that are very capable of killing a human can and will not be allowed to be operated in and around people. And people are pretty much everywhere. Its a bummer....

And your map is exactly why I will be moving to Maine in May. In Maine you can always drive North and do whatever you want. Within reason of course :)
What is the best way to locate all airports in an area? Maybe just google maps search?
Cheers
You can use sectional and terminal area charts from the FAA. This is a good source:

You need to learn all the different airport symbols. Look here:

You might be unpleasantly surprised at how many small or private airports (magenta circle with letter "R") there are in Maine.

My state of CT is largely suburb or rural yet 2/3 of the airspace is within 5 miles of some airport.
steve,
Thank you very much for the information. I will be using all of it! :)
