Octo without I2C ESCs?

Is it possible to have 2 motors driven by the same signal? Could I create an octo on the current setup but just double up on the motors driving each adjacent pair by one signal? It could fly in a configuration so 2 motors form the front side (side by side) and the same for the other 3 sides.

 

Or if there is any variance in the motor pair would it fight itself trying to balance?

    I think the direction that the motors spin is not related to the signal coming out of the APM.  It's related to the ordering of the wires connected from the ESC to the motors.  So theoretically you could have the same signal from the APM being fed to two separate ESCs and the motors attached to those ESCs could spin in opposite directions.

     

    I've never seen this done so I expect you'll have some problems but I can't think why.

  • What about using the same configuration + or x but have to motors on the same arm with 8 ESCs. Just a bigger + or x and each arm would use the same signal wire. I could reduce the size of the motors and props so it doesn't get too big. This way if one motor died the other would increase automatically to compensate.
  • That's the way I will go. I2C. Hoping the next version supports it.

    Could I just T the signal line using 8 ESC's but each set connected to the same motor output signal.
