PandaBoard

Greetings!

Allow me to introduce myself.

I'm Chris. I'm an electrical engineering student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, focussing in embedded controls. I'm currently the chairman of our IEEE student chapter robotics team.

I'm new to open-source project work, so I'm still in the process of familiarizing myself with this project. At the same time, I have a team of very talented and ambitious students with experience in a wide range of robotics disciplines, and we're looking for something to participate in. I'm very impressed with the level of sophistication of the APM project, and I'm hoping that my team and I can contribute good things. We're currently working with Mick to get HiL working with traditional helicopters.

I saw the conversation in the 1.x board about integrating the APM with OMAP devices, and I thought I'd restart an updated conversation here.

My team and I are considering integrating the APM hardware with a PandaBoard to increase functionality, particularly in the realm of visual data processing. I'm thinking that with OpenCV, so long as we have a platform that can carry the hardware, we could use anything from a standard webcam to a Kinect, and have everything from automated takeoff and landing at a designated spot, to target acquisition and tracking.

If you'd like to help with the initial integration, or you have an advanced feature that you'd like to add after the initial integration is done, then like this thread and post your feedback to give me a metric of how much interest we have. After I help Mick get HiL working with traditional helis, My team and I will likely be looking for something else to do.

Cheers.

  • Hi Chris,

How is this project progressing? Is the project open source and available somewhere? I am a student at UC Berkeley and I am building a quadcopter based on the pandaboard.

    Best regards,

    Henry

  • Hello,

I start exactly the same project in my spare time.

I look to the CSI-2 Camera and think to use directly the wifi signal with amplification to retrieve digital signal to my ground station.

    have a good day,

    laurent
