Pitot Static Designs

Hey Everyone.

I have a front prop plane i've been using with my ardupilot. I am installing the pitot static kit for airspeed into it, I have used it many times on pusher prop planes, however I want to make sure that I do not compromise the accuracy of the pitot static with prop wash.

Does anyone have any tips? :)

I was thinking of using some  excess stryfoam I have from previous crashes to make the components more aerodynamic on the wing (a hollow foam ball cut in half for the sensor, and a small fin shaped piece of stryfoam for the pitot/static tubes.

If anyone has been down that road, please let me know it would be greatly appreciated!

  • I'll be doing that this weekend. I was thinking of mounting my pitot tubes on wing away from thrust of the prop. Make a channel in the foam and have the tubes come out around the leading edge of the wing. Will see how it goes.
