I have a Pixhawk with external GPS+compass and telemetry installed in small powered glider.  In full Auto mode, it seeks waypoints, but very ineffectively and just seems to randomly wander most of the time.  It holds altitude but just doesn't want to fly the mission.

The fuselage is small, so I have everything crammed into a fairly small space.  The telemetry radio is sitting underneath the Pixhawk.  The battery is up front next to the speed controller & motor.  The telemetry circuit board is very close to the motor & battery.  The GPS/compass is mounted maybe 5cm aft of the Pixhawk.  The tip of the telemetry antenna is not far from the GPS/compass.

It flies fine in Stabilize & FBW-A.  I tuned it extensively according to instructions.  Everything is calibrated according to instructions.  I first suspected compass problems, so I recalibrated it many times, it now seems to be performing normally.  After recalibrating, the problem is no better.

Any ideas?  I figure I must be missing something basic.

  • What about compassmot?  I've seen references to that, but not in the standard procedure.  I'm going to try that next.
